From September 3 to October 2, Vilnius art space “GODÒ gallery” presents artist Marija Benetytė’s solo painting exhibition “YOU LIKE IT.”

Opening: September 8, 6:30 PM.

The works presented in the exhibition belong to an ongoing series that the artist conceived as a kind of memorial to Work – that endless toil we would gladly give up if we won the lottery jackpot. The artist follows a particular method: in her creative process, she uses random digital fragments left over from her graphic design practice, giving them a new, more intriguing and meaningful life.

Vector scraps, traces of digital tools, fragments of dismantled ornaments – all this redundant visual information, sitting on hard drives, evokes hours of work and overtime long since erased from memory. The artist uses these remnants for sketching, then recreates the results, as far as possible, using the means of analogue painting. The fragments change context: they detach themselves from their origins and begin to operate through new connections, emerging not from a logical sequence, but from time, rhythm, or error.

We observe how forms liberated from the functions once imposed upon them cease to signify and inform, yet can suddenly blossom into new messages. The only thing that remains unchanged is a tendency – or perhaps some inner urge to please, as though still connected to the digital and commercial past of these forms. This hybrid painting promises and withholds, reveals and misleads, intensely seduces and suddenly rewards. Like a shopping list from the day before yesterday, dismantled and reassembled in an unexpected order, becomes a strange kind of poetry. And you like it.

About the artist:

Marija Benetytė (b. 1980 in Klaipėda), after graduating in scenography from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, worked as a set and costume designer in Lithuanian and international theatres, later turning to graphic design and illustration. Since 2024, she has participated in group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, presenting her paintings. She currently lives and works in Vilnius.

The artist explores the tension between representation and presence, as well as the mechanisms of seduction and the adventures of narrative within the post-internet image.
