On May 20 (Wednesday) at 6 PM, the Vilnius art space “GODÒ Gallery” presents the contemporary fashion design and textile exhibition “Memory”, exploring the relationship between collective cultural experience and personally lived reality, alongside the book “Nemadinga Mada / Demode Fashion”.
The exhibition features soft objects – forms balancing between garment and sculpture, which not only reference the function of clothing, but also become materialized structures of memory. These objects, echoing Lithuanian traditions, textile heritage, and symbolic forms, invite the viewer into a slow and sensitive contemplation of traces of the past within the present.
The works were created using traditional weaving techniques and computer jacquard technology – the fabrics were woven by UAB “Audejas,” employing contemporary digital possibilities to render complex patterns and structures. They are combined with hand-tied original details that give each object individuality, tactility, and unique artistic value. This harmony between technological precision and craftsmanship becomes a central axis of the exhibition, reflecting a dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity.
Through visual language, the exhibition speaks about memory as a multilayered phenomenon – about shared, culturally inherited experience, as well as individual, emotionally intense memory that shapes our identity and creative thinking. Personal memory here is perceived as a living, sensitive impulse, often emerging from experiences of loss and transforming sorrow into creative energy.
An important part of the exhibition is an installation dedicated to the memory of their late colleague. It features her personal belongings and objects dedicated to her – elements of clothing testifying to her presence, aesthetic sensitivity, and creative connection. The installation is complemented by a video work in which a professional ballet dancer embodies the image of loss – like an ephemeral spirit moving through ballet. Surrounded by a black veil, the dancer creates a subtle yet visually powerful metaphor of farewell and remembrance. Symbolically, the work gives form to the unfulfilled dream of the departed to become a ballerina.
“Memory” becomes not only an exhibition, but also a sensitive dedication – an ode to a person who was important, close, and inspiring. It is a story about bonds that do not disappear, about presence that continues through creation, and about art as a way of speaking with what is no longer reachable, yet still alive in our memory.
