Ieva Vytaitytė | Painting exhibition "Transition"

From June 2-27, the Vilnius art space “GODÒ gallery” presents “Transition”, an exhibition of paintings by artist Ieva Vytaitytė.

Opening: June 2 (Tuesday), at 6:30 PM.

The painting cycle “Transition” is a multilayered expression of the artist’s inner transformation, where the female figure and the element of water constantly merge, transform, and create a unified yet paradoxically fluid narrative. In the artist’s work, the female body takes on an ambiguous form: it deforms, loses its strict and safe contours, dissolves into the mass of water, and gradually merges with abstract forms of the subconscious.

This visual journey unfolds throughout the exhibition as a consistent spiritual evolution with distinct stages of transformation. Everything begins at the primordial point of birth – the fragile yet powerful emergence of life. This initial light is soon replaced by a dramatic confrontation with inner fears and the shadows of the subconscious. Here, water is no longer a safe womb; it becomes a dense and intimidating force that demands struggle and profound spiritual rupture. Yet the cycle does not end in darkness – its culmination transforms into complete liberation, a kind of dance of freedom in which the figure ultimately reconciles with its own reflection and transcends the oasis of fear.

While creating this cycle, the artist immerses herself in an intuitive and meditative process in which the canvas itself becomes a space for experimentation and transformation. This creative state unfolds like an inner rhythm dictating the choice of colors and forms. Her works reveal a distinctive aesthetic signature that has accompanied her practice for some time – bluish, fluid silhouettes fiercely swimming or migrating from one large-scale painting to another.

“Transition” demonstrates that spiritual evolution occurs not through external control, but rather through the ability to embrace change, trust the flow, and simply allow oneself to be.

The exhibition is part of the Vilnius Academy of Arts Graduation Show 2026.

The exhibition will run until June 27th; admission is free.

About the artist:

Ieva Vytaitytė (b. 2003, Ukmergė) is a graduating student of Site-Specific Art (Fresco-Mosaic) at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and a painter. Having begun her creative journey at the Ukmergė Art School, the artist now presents her work in exhibitions, including the solo exhibition “Between the River and the Stream”, as well as several group exhibitions and art projects.

“Creation for me is a living, pulsating process inseparable from being near water, spiritual exploration, and the discovery of feminine energy. Starting from direct observation of nature, my work moves toward visualizing the immaterial depths of the subconscious. Painting becomes a means of transcending the surface of everyday life, where the rigid contours of figures dissolve, giving way to spiritual flexibility, flow, and an authentic encounter with oneself. My studies in site-specific art shaped my spatial and structural thinking, while painting remains the most intimate space in which I can explore, capture, and unfold myself.”
